DEFENDING 1 vs 1
One vs one's can occur in open ice, out of the corner, behind the net, on the boards or in front of the net. A defensemen must be able to solve all 1 vs 1 situations. In defending, the D first must read the play and then react selecting the most appropriate defensive tactic.
  READ:
  • distance between defender and the attacker
  • direction of the attacker
  • the speed of the attacker
  • degree of puck control
  REACTION:
  • the D must make adjustments based on the attacker's movement
  • attempt to close and finish the check from a tight gap position
  • ensure that defensive side positioning is maintained
  • angle from inside out
  • use stick to threaten and influence the attacker.
